Questions about the centre and people

These are the most common questions about the Buddhist centre and people.

Q: Why have a Buddhist centre in the middle of London?

A: Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to abandon ordinary life to practice Buddhism. As Geshe Kelsang writes in Eight Steps To Happiness,
"To put these mind-training instructions into practice we do not need to give up our normal daily activities but we do need to change our mental attitude towards them… We are living in human society and so we should behave in ways that accord with the way other people behave. We do not need to make an outward show of our spiritual practice. Of course we need to refrain from harmful actions, but mainly we need to change our mind. If we transform our present ordinary mind into love and compassion we shall naturally act in a positive way that will be a good example to others and inspire them to enter the spiritual path."
Eight Steps to Happiness by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

Q: Who lives at the centre?

A: There are currently around 20 people living at the centre, both male and female, lay and ordained.
